Please take time to read our Nutritionist Anas blog for the new year………

Healthy New Year!!

Health Matters
I would like to thank all my clients for the fantastic work we have done last year and welcome my new ones, I trust we will carry on building and consolidating progress and well-being for the months to come!

It is the first month of the year and many of us have set our goals and projects to improve our quality of life. Food and Life-style are generally at the top of the list and for a good reason.

When the topic is diet and health, genetics must be in context. Diet plays a big role in our epigenome* which consequently will have an impact on health and disease. The epigenetic can be thought as an add-on to the DNA like an additional set of instructions and these instructions responds to the environment which we are exposed. Unlike behaviour or stress, diet is one of the more easily studied and, so far better understood, environmental factors in epigenetic alteration.

The nutrients we absorb from food travels to the metabolic pathways where they are manipulated, modified, and shaped into molecules so that the body can utilise them. One such pathway is responsible for making methyl groups – important epigenetic tags that silence genes.

I am sure you have already heard about nutrients like folic acid, B vitamins, and SAM-e (S-Adenosyl methionine). These are key components of a pathway called methyl-making pathway and diets high in these nutrients can rapidly alter gene expression, especially during early development when the epigenome is first being established; a key message for women planning to conceive or already around the 1st trimester.

If you included Diet and Lifestyle in your ‘new year to do list’ you should consider testing for the following genetic factors (DNA Health Test):

Cholesterol metabolism
DNA Methylation
Oxidative Stress
Insulin resistance
Bone health
Iron metabolism

The DNA Health test is designed to optimise well-being and health by personalising lifestyle and diet choices and, where necessary, using supplements tailored to offset any particular nutritional deficit based on specific gene variants.

We can tailor the most appropriate diet and lifestyle for your needs and avoid the frustration of many tentative that often does not suit you!
