History
Written records dating back thousands of years from the ancient Greek and Chinese civilisations refer to spinal manipulation. The word Chiropractic literally means “done by hand”, from the Greek words “cheir” (hand) and “praktos” (done).
The inception of modern Chiropractic can be traced back to 1895 when Canadian Daniel David Palmer performed the first Chiropractic adjustment and was the founder of The Palmer School of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa.
Chiropractic is unique as the profession is organised internationally and there are international standards for education.
In common with medical practitioners and dentists, all Chiropractors are registered by law under the Chiropractors Act 1994, and the title “Chiropractor” is protected by legislation. Chiropractors are registered with the General Chiropractic Council, which protects the title “Chiropractor”. Both of our Chiropractors are registered with the General Chiropractic Council and the British Chiropractic Association.
The British Chiropractic Association (BCA) is the largest and longest-standing association for Chiropractors in the UK comprising in excess of 50% of the UK’s registered Chiropractors. It was founded in 1925 and only accepts members who have graduated from a nationally or internationally recognised Chiropractic college of education. The BCA ensures its Chiropractors maintain high standards of conduct, practice, education and training.
